چکیده

Recent theoretical results on elastic-plastic planestrain crack growth an~ reviewed and experimental results for crack growth in a 4140 steel are discussed in terms of the theoretical concepts. The theory is based on a recent asymptotic analysis of crack surface opening and strain distributions at a quasistatically advancing crack tip in an ideally plastic solid. The analysis is incomplete in that some of the parameters which appear in it are known only approximately, especially at large-scale yielding. Nevertheless, it is sufficient for the derivation of a relation between the imposed loading and amount of crack growth prior to general yielding, based on the assumption that a geometrically similar near-tip crack profile is maintained during growth. The resulting predictions for the variation of J with crack growth are found to fit well to the experimental results obtained on deeply cracked compact specimens.

PLASTIC INTENSITY FACTORS FOR CRACKED PLATESt

An elastic-plastic analysis is performed for two problems relevant to fracture mechanics: a semi infinite body with an edge crack in a far out-of-plane shearing field and an infinite plate under plane stress conditions containing a finite line crack in a remote tensile field. Amplitudes of the dominant singularity in the plastic region at the crack tip, the plastic stress and strain intensity ...

Steady-state Crack Growth and Work of Fracture for Solids Characterized by Strain Gradient Plasticity

Mode I steady-state crack growth is analysed under plane strain conditions in small scale yielding. The elastic-plastic solid is characterized by a generalization of JZ flow theory which accounts for the influence of the gradients of plastic strains on hardening. The constitutive model involves one new parameter, a material length 1, specifying the scale of nonuniform deformation at which harde...

RICE A Path Independent Integral and the Approximate Analysis of Strain Concentration by Notches and Cracks

A line integral is exhibited which has the same value for all paths surrounding the tip of a notch in the two-dimensional strain field of an elastic or deformation-type elastic-plastic material. Constitutive Model for Multi-laminate Induced Anisotropic Double Hardening Elastic-plasticity of Sand

A constitutive multi-laminate based elastic-plastic model developed to be capable of accounting induced anisotropic behavior of granular material such as sand. The fabric feature or grain orientation characteristic effects through medium are considered in a rational way under any complex stress path, including cyclic loading. The salient feature of the developed model is a non-associative on pl...
